Duffy & Friends celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2025. While Tokyo DisneySea is hosting a special anniversary event in the park, the celebrations extend beyond the gates — including at Disney Hotels and the Disney Resort Line monorail.
This article takes a close look at the Duffy & Friends Colorful Happiness Liner — a limited-time special-wrapped monorail running on the Disney Resort Line to mark the milestone.
Duffy & Friends Colorful Happiness Liner: Overview
Operating period: April 8, 2025 (Tue) – March 19, 2026 (Thu)
Hours: Varies by day — check the Disney Resort Line official website for the current schedule.
Fare: Adults ¥300 / Children ¥150 (standard ticket)
The Colorful Happiness Liner runs during the same period as the 20th anniversary event at Tokyo DisneySea. The fare is identical to a regular Disney Resort Line ride — no extra charge to board the special train.
One important note: the liner does not operate all day. Its schedule varies by date, and the Disney Resort Line website posts timetables about four days in advance. If riding it is a priority, check the schedule ahead of your visit.

Exterior Wrap Design
The exterior wrap follows the main visual of the “Colorful Happiness” 20th anniversary event — colorful backgrounds filled with soap bubbles, with each car featuring a large, vibrant illustration of one Duffy & Friends character. The palette is bright and cheerful, exactly what “Colorful Happiness” promises.
The character lineup from front to back: Duffy (Car 1), Gelatoni & LinaBell (Car 2), ShellieMay (Car 3), Cookie Ann (Car 4), Stella Lou (Car 5), Olu Mel (Car 6). The Duffy and Olu Mel cars also feature the number “20” in the design.

Interior Design
The interior is designed in soft, colorful pastels — fully on-theme for the Duffy & Friends 20th anniversary. The ceiling features a clear blue-sky illustration, immediately giving you the feeling of stepping into Duffy’s world.

According to the 20th anniversary website, the opening story features the friends making bubbles and rainbows together — and the interior seems to capture exactly that scene.
Now, let’s break down the highlights of the interior.
Plush-Style Seats That Feel Like Touching the Characters
The first thing you’ll notice inside is the seats. The standard Disney Resort Line seats are normally Mickey-patterned — but on the Colorful Happiness Liner, each seat replicates the actual fabric of one of the Duffy & Friends plush toys.
Most Duffy & Friends characters are plush toys with long, fluffy fur — and the seats faithfully recreate that texture. Olu Mel, with his shorter-pile fabric, is replicated exactly as well. Trying to guess which character each seat represents is part of the fun.
Right next to each character-themed seat, there’s a printed character illustration — almost like an answer key. The illustrations match those on the exterior wrap. You can sit on your favorite character’s seat and snap a souvenir photo with the matching illustration in frame.

Don’t Miss the Icon Details on Each Seat
At the end of each seat, you’ll find a small icon representing each character’s defining feature. Take a closer look — every icon ties back to the item that played a key role in that character’s debut story. It’s a thoughtful way to invite guests to relive each character’s backstory.
Duffy / Tiny Bottle with a Letter
Duffy is the plush Minnie made for Mickey, and the tiny bottle is what Minnie hung around Duffy’s neck — containing a letter for Mickey to read whenever he felt lonely. Later, Duffy himself put a letter inside that bottle wishing for a friend, and after the bottle drifted out to sea and reached Minnie, ShellieMay was created. Either way, the bottle is deeply tied to Duffy’s story.

ShellieMay / Seashell
The seashell is the source of ShellieMay’s name. Like Duffy, ShellieMay was made by Minnie. There’s also a story where Duffy found a heart-shaped seashell, transformed it into a pendant, and gave it to ShellieMay. The seashell on the train isn’t heart-shaped — likely a nod to the name origin rather than the pendant story.

Gelatoni / Palette
Gelatoni is a talented painter, so his icon is a palette. Look closely — the palette is shaped like Mickey, exactly as it appears in his original story. A delightful detail.

Stella Lou / Star
Stella Lou dreams of becoming a dancer. When she met Duffy, he told her, “You shine like a star,” which gave her the boost to feel one step closer to her dream. The star icon directly references that scene.

Cookie Ann / Whisk
Cookie Ann loves cooking, hence the whisk icon. In her story, she’s making waffles — so it’s likely the whisk she used for that.

Olu Mel / Music Notes
Olu Mel loves composing songs, so his icon is music notes. In his story, he and Duffy give a song to ShellieMay as a birthday gift.

LinaBell / Butterfly
LinaBell is a talented mystery-solver. The butterfly icon comes from the story where Duffy gets lost while chasing butterflies, and LinaBell uses clues — including the butterflies — to help him find his way back.

The Bubbles on the Walls Tell the Full History
The bubbles painted across the train’s interior aren’t just decoration — many of them contain illustrations. Look closely and you’ll see scenes from past Duffy & Friends events held at Tokyo DisneySea over the years.

On top of that, near each character’s seat, you’ll find illustrations connected to that character’s debut story. The design isn’t just cute — it’s a careful celebration of every chapter of Duffy & Friends history.

“Oh, I loved the artwork from this event,” “I have such great memories from this season at the park” — riding through the train, you find yourself reliving not just Duffy & Friends history, but your own park memories too. Personally, this is the highlight I’d most encourage everyone to look out for.
For the record, my personal favorite is the artwork from the summer 2021 event “Duffy & Friends Sunny Fun.”

Final Verdict
The Duffy & Friends Colorful Happiness Liner is a complete celebration of 20 years of Duffy & Friends. Plush-fabric seats, a 360-degree wraparound design, character-icon details, and bubbles full of past-event memories — every part of the experience pulls you straight into Duffy’s world. If you’re visiting Tokyo Disney Resort during the run, do yourself a favor and hop aboard.
