Since January 14, 2026, Tokyo DisneySea in Japan has been running the third installment of Disney Story Beyond, set against the backdrop of “Palazzo Canale.”

The event includes an area-walking experience tied to an original Palazzo Canale story, plus special goods and exclusive menu items.

This post focuses on one of those special menu items — Chiacchiere (Coffee & Mascarpone). It’s a gondola-shaped pastry with a delightfully crisp texture, and it absolutely added to the event experience.

Chiacchiere — full set in gondola-style box

Chiacchiere is a traditional Italian carnival pastry, known for its crisp, light texture. Traditionally, the dough is rolled thin and deep-fried, but the version at the park comes shaped like a small croissant, with a coffee-flavored mascarpone cream tucked inside.

You get 3 pieces for ¥680. To me that doesn’t feel pricey at all — that’s about ¥227 each, and they’re a decent size, putting them roughly in line with a mid-tier Japanese convenience store dessert.

Two locations carry it. Gondolier’s Snack sits right by Palazzo Canale, the stage for Story Beyond, while Cafe Portofino is on the opposite (Soaring) side and serves pasta and other meals. For the full Story Beyond experience, go to Gondolier’s Snack; if you want it as part of a meal, Cafe Portofino is the better pick.

Chiacchiere — A Closer Look

Here’s a closer look at the Chiacchiere itself.

Check Out the Gondola-Shaped Box!

The first thing that grabbed me was the box. The black is unmistakably designed to evoke a gondola — and the side rims aren’t straight but curved, just like a real gondola. There’s also a red paper tucked between the box and the chiacchiere, and that black-and-red combo feels like a nod to the Venetian Gondolas attraction.

Look closely and you’ll spot wave illustrations along the bottom of the box too. So if the box is the gondola, the chiacchiere are the passengers (?) — though the chiacchiere themselves have a crescent-moon shape that also reads gondola-like.

Since gondolas are a key element of this Story Beyond event, eating chiacchiere makes the whole experience feel that much more immersive.

Light, Crisp, Addictive Pastry

Now for the actual taste. The first thing that hits you is the crispness — seriously crisp dough.

The croissant-like shape made me expect bread, but it’s much closer to puff pastry. Think of it as a cross between a croissant and a Pai-no-Mi (a Japanese puff-pastry snack) — a really light texture that quickly becomes addictive.

The size made me think it’d be filling, but the dough is so light that they disappear in no time. We bought one set for three of us — one each — and one was definitely not enough. I could easily put away three by myself.

Powdered Sugar Plus Coffee Cream — A Gentle, Refined Sweetness

The next standout is the powdered sugar dusted across the top — and there’s a lot of it. Picking one up to eat sends the sugar fluttering everywhere, like a gentle snowfall (lol). Heads up if you’re wearing dark clothes!

The sweetness lands just right — the heavy dusting works out to a soft, refined sweetness rather than overwhelming.

Bite in and you’ll find coffee cream inside — a blend of coffee and mascarpone.

Thanks to the mascarpone, the coffee flavor reads gentle and smooth — no aggressive bitter punch. I’m not actually a big coffee fan myself, but even I found it easy to enjoy. Our 4-year-old also happily polished one off saying “yum, yum!” — so it really works for all ages.

Bottom line — it’s the kind of addictive snack that has me thinking, even right now while writing this, “ah, I want one again.”

Overall Ratings

Overall, I gave it 4.5 out of 5.

“Value for Money” and “Taste” are easy 5s. ¥680 for three pieces is a steal, and they’re addictive enough that you’ll be thinking about them long after you leave the park.

“Easy to Eat” lost a half-point because of the powdered sugar — it likes to drift in the wind, so be careful with your outfit choice.

Final Thoughts

So that was a look at Chiacchiere (Coffee & Mascarpone), one of the special menu items at Disney Story Beyond “Palazzo Canale.”

Between being a traditional Italian carnival pastry and being shaped like a gondola, it’s a near-perfect special-menu fit for this Story Beyond event.

The flavor matches the concept too — light crisp pastry plus a gentle coffee cream that quickly becomes addictive. Easy for anyone to enjoy.

This menu item runs through March 19, 2026 — if you’re heading to Tokyo DisneySea during the window, definitely give it a try!
