This time I’m introducing the Tokyo Disney Resort exclusive Pocky, featuring Mickey-shaped pretzels!

This Pocky has been on sale since December 2021, making it a relatively new addition to the Disney Resort sweets lineup. Many of you may not have tried it yet.

(1) Packaging design that screams Disney souvenir at a glance

The exterior design is a red box reminiscent of standard Pocky, with a Mickey illustration on the front and Minnie on the back, along with illustrations of Cinderella Castle and Mount Prometheus. “TOKYO DISNEY RESORT” is printed in large letters, making it clear at first sight that this is a Tokyo Disney Resort exclusive.

And as you can see at a glance when you look at the actual product, the box is larger than the standard Pocky — when placed side by side, both height and width are about 1.5 times bigger.

Open the box and you’ll find each Pocky stick individually wrapped. The individual wrapping also features the “TOKYO DISNEY RESORT” logo and a Mickey illustration, making each piece easy to hand out individually.

(2) The hidden secret in the pretzel — comparison with standard Pocky

From here on, I’ll report on the details of the Pocky. The Pocky sold at Tokyo Disney Resort is thicker and longer than standard Pocky, with a more substantial feel. I’d estimate it’s about 1.2 to 1.3 times longer than the usual version.

Looking at the cross-section, you can see that the pretzel portion is in a Mickey shape. Placed alongside the standard version, the size of the pretzel feels about the size you’d get by combining three regular Pocky sticks to form a Mickey silhouette.

Next, looking at the cross-section of the chocolate coating: rather than being thinly coated along the Mickey-shaped pretzel, the chocolate is generously applied to fill out a circular outline around the Mickey shape.

Now for my tasting impressions. As you can imagine, the larger size means more volume, but what struck me as different from the standard Pocky was that the chocolate flavor is more pronounced. Standard Pocky has a circular pretzel coated thinly along its shape, but as I mentioned above, the Tokyo Disney Resort Pocky has a Mickey shape with the chocolate filling out a circular outline around it — so more chocolate ends up in the spaces between the ears and between the ears and the face compared with a round pretzel, giving it a stronger chocolate presence. The chocolate flavor itself and the pretzel texture are the same as standard Pocky.

(3) About the manufacturer and price

This Pocky is made by the same company as the standard version — Ezaki Glico Co., Ltd., a household-name confectionery maker.

As for the price of the Tokyo Disney Resort exclusive Pocky, I compared it with regional limited-edition Pocky often sold at tourist destinations. I chose regional Pocky for comparison because it also comes in the same larger box size with individually wrapped sticks, similar to the Disney Resort version. Searching online, most regional Pocky boxes sold for 864 yen. Since a regional box contains 14 sticks, that works out to about 62 yen per stick. The Tokyo Disney Resort exclusive Pocky is about 93 yen per stick — roughly 1.5 times the price of regional Pocky.

Value for money

At about 93 yen per stick, it’s considerably more expensive than standard or regional Pocky, so value for money isn’t great — I rated it 3. The Mickey-shaped pretzel and extra chocolate likely contribute to the higher price. Still, considering that Pocky (though not exactly this version) is available outside the parks too, this price felt steep to me as a consumer.

Ease of distribution

The individual wrapping makes it easy to distribute as a souvenir. When unwrapped, the Mickey-shaped pretzel is also visually fun, making this a great Disney Resort souvenir option.

Taste

The key point is that the chocolate flavor is stronger and more delicious than standard Pocky. That said, the chocolate flavor itself and other qualities are the same as standard Pocky, so I rated it 4.

Disney feel

The Disney feel comes through in the packaging illustrations and the Mickey-shaped pretzel. But since the flavor is the same as standard Pocky — something you can also enjoy outside the parks — I rated it 3.5. If the chocolate flavor had something original, like a Tokyo Disney Resort-exclusive taste similar to regional Pocky versions, I would have given it a higher score.
