Special Ratatouille Sandwich — Look & Filling

Ratatouille is a classic French home-cooked dish — vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, and onions simmered slowly together with tomatoes and herbs.
Inside the Special Ratatouille Sandwich you’ll find lettuce, ham, egg salad, and ratatouille (zucchini, bell peppers, and onions).
The visual impact is huge — a generous layer of ham and egg salad is packed firmly between the buns, with ratatouille piled on top almost spilling over. Even before you take a bite, you can tell this thing is going to be filling. The official description calls it “a hearty sandwich packed with honey-mustard marinated ham, egg salad, and ratatouille,” and it absolutely lives up to that look.
Hands-On Review
A Surprise — Light and Cold
One thing I noticed when I picked it up: the sandwich I’d assumed would be warm was actually cold. Since it was ratatouille, I’d pictured a warm grilled-style sandwich, so it was a bit of a surprise! But being cold made it lighter and very easy to eat. I had it for breakfast and the refreshing taste was a perfect fit!
A Sandwich Where the Flavor Keeps Shifting
The first thing you notice with a bite is the strong honey mustard flavor. The mustard has a real presence, but there’s almost no heat — there’s a gentle sweetness from the honey that makes it easy to enjoy. The seasoning is mild enough that people who don’t like spicy food and even kids can eat it without issue.
On top of that, you get the creaminess of the egg salad, the savory richness of the ham, and the vegetable umami plus tomato tang from the ratatouille. With so many fillings, every bite tastes a little different, and I never got bored before finishing it! Each ingredient holds its own without drowning out the others — a really nice balance and very tasty!
Portion Size & Satisfaction
The volume looks impressive at first glance, and my first thought was “Can I really finish this on my own in the morning…?” But thanks to the cold, refreshing feel and the soft, airy bun, the actual heft was lighter than it looked. I happily finished it solo at breakfast.
That said, the fillings are downright generous — especially the ham, which felt like it was loaded in beyond reason! The ratatouille and egg salad weren’t outdone either, packed in thickly enough that you taste them clearly. The post-meal satisfaction was very real!
Tips for Eating It
Because there’s so much filling, things tend to spill out as you eat. Instead of unwrapping it from the paper, leaving it in the wrapper and eating from the edges little by little keeps the fillings tidy and makes it much easier to handle.
“Ratatouille” Decorations
During the Food & Wine Festival, both the inside and outside of New York Deli are decked out in decorations themed after the Disney & Pixar movie “Ratatouille.” Illustrations of the main character Remy are scattered everywhere, getting you in the mood before you even sit down to eat. From here, I’ll walk through the in-store decor.
Window Glass Outside the Store

The first thing you spot as you approach the restaurant is Remy’s illustration painted on the window outside. The “Ratatouille” world is already on display before you even step in, building up your anticipation as you head inside.
Tapestries Overhead

Tapestries printed with Remy illustrations hang above the entrance and inside the restaurant. The artwork is adorable on its own, and the overall festival atmosphere of the Food & Wine Festival really came through — it pumped me up!

Wall Illustrations Inside the Store

Remy illustrations are painted on the walls around the inside of New York Deli. Looking at them, it almost feels like Remy himself is hard at work making the Special Ratatouille Sandwich — it really got me excited!

Remy Illustrations on the Tables (My Top Pick)

Of all the decorations, the one I’d really single out is the Remy illustration on each table. A checked pattern designed to look like a tablecloth carries a Remy illustration on top — and it’s just so cute! It’s right there in front of you while you eat, which is a great touch, and personally this table design is my favorite of all the decor.

How “Ratatouille” Connects to the Special Ratatouille Sandwich
This special menu being themed around ratatouille has a deep tie to the film. In the movie, the dish that Remy makes for the harsh food critic Anton Ego is ratatouille — and it’s the very dish that moves Ego’s heart. At the end of the film, the restaurant that Remy and the human Linguini open together is also named “Ratatouille.” Watching the movie before eating the sandwich adds one more layer of flavor to the whole experience.
