Released on September 3, 2020, this is the Sally headband from The Nightmare Before Christmas!
This headband, which had been a hit at overseas parks, finally arrived in Japan — and ahead of release, “Sally headband” was even trending on Twitter as buzz built up.
I don’t usually wear headbands, but I had been thinking “I absolutely have to get this one!” since before launch, so I picked one up first thing on release day, September 3!
In this article, I’ll introduce the headband itself and walk through the points to check before buying!

Design highlights
The ear sections and the headband itself use the same fabric pattern as Sally’s dress, while the bow recreates the patchwork look that is one of Sally’s signature features. The pattern is printed on both the outside and the inside of the headband!

The fabric has a soft sheen, and the bow is detailed with sequins.
Sally’s dress is famously stitched together from a patchwork of different fabrics — swirls, stripes, dots, and more — and those signature patterns have been faithfully reproduced here. The result is a really charming design!
2. Points to Check Before Buying
The ear sections of this Sally headband all share the same design — but the rest of the headband actually varies subtly from piece to piece!
That’s why you’ll often see shoppers carefully comparing several headbands before picking one.
So here are the spots where the design differs, and what to look for when choosing yours.
The bow
As mentioned in the product overview, the bow recreates the patchwork of Sally’s body. The position of those patchwork seams differs from one headband to another.
Which placement works best is purely personal taste, but I went with one where the patchwork seam runs right down the middle, so it really stands out!
The size and shape of the bow, the sharpness of the corners, and the fullness all vary too. Each one looks like it’s hand-stitched, so there’s quite a bit of individual variation in this area.

The fabric on the headband band
The fabric on the band itself uses the same Sally-dress patterns as the ears.
Since you can’t really see this part from straight on, some shoppers may not worry about it — but depending on where the fabric was cut, the finished pattern varies a lot. It’s arguably the part with the biggest individual differences across pieces.
The most common design seemed to be a combination of solid yellow and the purple swirl pattern.
Occasionally you’d also find pieces using the purple-and-black stripe section or the green fabric with black dots.
Personally, even on the side I wanted as much pattern and color variety as possible, so I picked one with the yellow-and-purple swirls plus a little touch of light blue mixed in!
