Autumn is a great season for outings, and Tokyo Disney Resort comes alive with Halloween events starting in September, drawing big crowds to the parks.
Separately from Halloween, Tokyo DisneySea is hosting “Lazos de la Familia” for the very first time this year — a limited-time event themed around the world of Remember Me (Coco). From characters featured in the film Coco to decorations and food inspired by Mexico’s “Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead),” it’s an event that Coco fans simply can’t miss.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the highlights of Tokyo DisneySea’s limited-time event, “Lazos de la Familia.”
Overview of the Limited-Time Event “Lazos de la Familia”
Event period: September 17 (Wed) – November 2 (Sun), 2025
Event area: Tokyo DisneySea, Lost River Delta
Special menu: Available (Yucatan Base Camp Grill)
Special merchandise: None
“Lazos de la Familia” takes place in “Lost River Delta,” the Tokyo DisneySea area themed around Central America. Since Mexico — the setting of Coco — is part of Central America, this venue could not be more fitting.
While Tokyo Disney Resort’s Halloween event runs through October 31, “Lazos de la Familia” continues two extra days until November 2. That’s because the event is timed to coincide with “Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead),” the festival celebrated in Mexico and other countries.
By the way, “Lazos de la Familia” translates literally to “family bonds.” Día de los Muertos is a holiday for honoring ancestors, and the movie Coco also tells a story of deepening family ties — making this name the perfect fit for the event.
How to Enjoy “Lazos de la Familia”
First, Pick Up a Leaflet!
When you ask a cast member, you can get a leaflet for the event. Open it and you’ll find an overview of “Lazos de la Familia” — but flip it around while it’s still open and you’ll see the front side is shaped like a skull face, with holes cut out for the eyes. You can use it as a mask to play around with or take photos.
Holding the mask up for photos really made me feel like I was joining in on Día de los Muertos myself — it was such a fun touch!

Enjoy the Special Menu!
At “Yucatan Base Camp Grill,” a restaurant in Lost River Delta, you can find special menu items created for the event.
One of these special menu items features the iconic “pan de muerto” from the movie, letting you experience the world of Coco through food.
We’ve covered the special menu in detail in a separate article, so please check it out as well.

Explore the Photo Spots and Decorations!
During the event, Lost River Delta features several photo spots and decorations inspired by Coco and Día de los Muertos. Just walking through them is enough to transport you into the world of the film — they’re absolutely worth seeing.
1. The Rivera Family Ofrenda (Altar)
The one thing you absolutely have to see at this event is the Rivera family ofrenda (altar) from Coco. It looks just like the movie — you’re instantly drawn into its world, so it’s an especially great photo spot for Coco fans.
The altar displays photos of Miguel’s ancestors, and if you look closely you’ll spot offerings from the film too, including pan de muerto and tamales. The Rivera family has been shoemakers for generations, so shoes are also placed on the altar!

What moved me most was the photo at the very top of the altar. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll already know — this altar is the one as it appears after the events of the film! For anyone who hasn’t seen Coco yet, though, this is a major spoiler, so be careful.
If you have time before the event, I really recommend watching the movie first!

2. The Marigold Bridge to the Land of the Dead
The next photo spot is “Puente Buena Vista,” the bridge in Lost River Delta closest to the Arabian Coast side.
During the event period, this bridge is decorated to recreate the marigold bridge from Coco that connects the Land of the Dead with the Land of the Living. Above it you’ll find the event name “Lazos de la Familia” along with props of Mamá Imelda and Héctor!

3. Yucatan Base Camp Grill
Yucatan Base Camp Grill — the restaurant serving the event’s special menu — also has two photo spots of its own.
At the entrance, there’s a banner featuring Miguel, Héctor, and the event name. This is actually the only place where Miguel, the film’s protagonist, appears, so it’s a photo spot you’ll definitely want to capture.

Next is the dining table set up outside the restaurant. The film also features a Rivera family dinner table scene, and this is a recreation of it. On the table you’ll find pan de muerto — said to be eaten during Día de los Muertos — along with tamales, which Miguel’s grandmother encouraged him to eat in the movie.
Chairs are arranged around this photo spot so you can actually sit down and take photos, making it a great place to snap pictures with friends or family.

4. The Flower Shop Cart
Near Yucatan Base Camp Grill, you’ll also find a flower shop selling marigolds — a symbol of Coco. It’s not actually selling anything (it’s purely decorative), but it’s a charming little shop overflowing with marigolds.

Experience Día de los Muertos with the Atmosphere Entertainment!
Finally, during the “Lazos de la Familia” period, an atmosphere entertainment program performing traditional Mexican “mariachi” music appears on the marigold bridge “Puente Buena Vista” we mentioned earlier. The performers wear skull masks and showcase both music and dance, making you feel like you’ve stepped right into Mexico.
The timing isn’t fixed — performances happen at irregular intervals — so consider yourself lucky if you catch one!
Summary
How was it? In this article, we walked you through how to enjoy “Lazos de la Familia,” the brand-new event held at Tokyo DisneySea for the very first time.
It’s a wonderful event that lets you experience both the world of Coco and Mexican culture. The Rivera family ofrenda, the marigold bridge, and the special menu are particularly recommended — so if you visit Tokyo DisneySea, please be sure to check them out.
